The Early Play and Development Laboratory, directed by Dr. Daniel Messinger, is based out of the Department of Psychology at the Coral Gables campus of the University of Miami. The research data collected in our lab is used to examine the development of typically developing children as well as children who are at-risk for or are diagnosed with an Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).
The Lab employs behavioral imaging (objective measurement) to create rich, in-time portraits of interaction. We model the resulting big behavioral data to understand and foster social, emotional, and language development.
Focusing on diverse groups of typically developing children and those affected by autism, hearing loss, and poverty, we receive funding from the Clinical and Translational Science Institute, the Autism Science Foundation, the National Institutes of Health, the National Science Foundation, and the Institute of Education Sciences.
